For endurance cyclists, a key predictor of performance is the relative contribution to energy output that comes from aerobic vs anaerobic metabolism. Because lactic acid is a bio-marker for anaerobic contribution, its levels in the blood tell us just how efficient a cyclist is at any riding intensity.
A blood lactate analysis (test) allows coaches to build the full picture of a rider's capacity, pinpoint effective training zones (ETZ) and build an accurate power profile. Training can then be perfectly targeted to ensure maximum training efficiency.
